๐Ÿ“– What Is This?

Scene Session is a one-hour storytelling game. The author brings a scene from their story. Everyone else plays a character in it.

The goal isn't to win โ€” it's to find out what happens when real people step into a world that only existed in one person's imagination. What the players feel, where they push, where they hesitate โ€” that's data the author can't get any other way.

๐ŸŽญ The Three Sliders

CHARISMA โ€” Do people trust, like, or want to follow this character? HIGH means doors open. LOW means every bit of trust must be earned.

SKILL โ€” Are they good at what this scene is asking of them? HIGH means they're in their element. LOW means they're out of their depth.

DRIVE โ€” Do they push toward things, or do things happen to them? HIGH means they act first. LOW means they need a reason to move.

Every character has one HIGH, one MID, and one LOW. Nobody gets all three up. That's what makes characters interesting.

๐ŸŽฒ Rolling the Die

When a player tries something uncertain, they roll. First they name which slider applies โ€” Charisma, Skill, or Drive โ€” and explain how. That choice is part of the story.

HHIGH slider โ€” Need 3 or above โ€” 4 in 6 chance MMID slider โ€” Need 4 or above โ€” 3 in 6 chance LLOW slider โ€” Need 5 or above โ€” 2 in 6 chance
๐Ÿ”’ The Secret

Every character is hiding something. A line they'd never cross. When the scene presses on it, the player doesn't just roll โ€” they have to answer in character.

The Secret holds. Always. That's what makes the character real.

๐ŸŽฌ Running the Scene

The Narrator opens the scene, describes the world, and asks: what do you do?

Let players act freely
Call for a roll when outcome is uncertain
Drop a new beat every ~15 minutes
End when the Scene Goal is reached or clearly lost
Don't let it run past an hour
๐Ÿ’ฌ The Debrief

After the scene, spend 10 minutes asking the table:

Which moment made the world feel most real to you?
Which character do you want to know more about?
Where did the story ask you to do something your character wouldn't actually do?
