Philip never thought he’d be creating graphic novels. But after discerning out of seminary, he went on to blog about symbolism in Lord of the Rings and write about spiritual traditions. Today, he heads up Voyage Comics, and has created the ‘Finnian’ saga, and is breaking ground with a new superhero. His passion is exploring how Catholics face spiritual drama, violence and adventure through the rich, fun visuals of comics.

Katy thinks it’s weird to write about herself in the third person but is willing to do it for the sake of this author bio. She is a humor writer and lover of fairy tales. She prefers the gory originals to the squeaky clean Disney retellings but will gladly consume both. As a homeschool graduate from New Jersey, she published her first children’s novel, Martha and Chip, at the age of nineteen. She went on to study entertainment media at John Paul the Great University in San Diego. It was there she met her husband, a man who only dressed in flannel and had a cup of Starbucks coffee permanently affixed to his hand. She returned with him to his home state of Washington where she too, developed a taste for Starbucks (though not for flannel).

Mary Jessica Woods was raised and homeschooled in the Chicago suburbs, where she read as many adventure stories as she could get her hands on. At the age of ten, she realized she was doomed to be a writer and has been following the muse ever since. Still seeking adventure, she headed out west to Wyoming Catholic College, where she climbed mountains, rappelled off cliffs, and studied the Great Books.

After graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in the Liberal Arts, she returned to the Midwest to work as an editor. Mary also volunteers as an editorial assistant for the literary magazine Dappled Things, and her nonfiction has appeared in America Magazine, Catholic World Report, and First Things. A student in Hillsdale college, Kiley Hatch pitched a story to the Merry Beggars, and they snatched up her creative talent. An idea bloomed into a massive project with 40 characters, 21 episodes, and a rousing race across America produced as an audio drama for radio. Kiley shares her experiences diving into the deep end, being paired with an incredible team, and how she grew as a writer and creator.

Editor’s note: this interview was glitchy, but we’ve done our best to edit it for clarity. The final version here is the best we can do – but we think you’ll agree that Kiley has such a winning personality that the time flies by!
