Teen & YA fiction themes and toxic tropes! with Katy Campbell, Citlalin Ossio, & Dominic de Souza

Mar 17, 2022 | Export, Latest

Dominic, Katy, and Citlalin chat about what makes YA and Teen fiction. Most importantly, what are the key things to think about when creating characters, what pressures are they going through, and what toxic tropes to avoid.

This is a CatholicAuthor conversation, so we see writing as a vocation – meaning, it’s more than a path we enjoy. It’s something we can take seriously to prompt us to become more authentic, empathic, and real human beings.

This chat was a true blessing to watch! I had never thought about the whole “write what you’re going through” thing without thinking “oh, I don’t want to fall into the trap of just putting myself in the story and living through my characters”. I didn’t realize that there’s a healthy way to do both! Thank you for the tips, discussion, and pop-culture references!
